Paint, Cabinets and Tile

Just a quick update on the house. They have painted, finished the cabinets and installed the tile(still needs to be grouted). Up next... lights, locks, and appliances.

4-Day Weekend

Jeremy has a brief summer break before the fall semester starts, so I decided to take a couple days off from work and enjoy some time with my hubby. It started last Friday when I found out about the Weston 10 Mile Trail Antique and Garden show. I didn't know any more about it than the information provided on the website, but I thought it sounded like a fun spontaneous adventure. There were four locations that had vendors set up selling random treasures but we only made it to three. The first stop was the Weston Red Barn Farm.

There were many people with small portions of the treasures they had collected. We talked to one guy who said he used 40 semi trailors to transport all of his belongings when he moved. He claimed to have a full pipe organ and one of the greatest keyboard collections in the nation. I loved hearing the stories.

Stop number two was at the Riverwood Winery. The winery was located in a small country school northwest of Weston and unfortunately I didn't get a picture there.

Last, but definitely not least we made a stop at Beverlin's Statuary at the old grain elevators in Weston which were built in the early 1900s. We didn't find anything to take home with us, but we thought it was a fun place.

Sunday afternoon we took off for Manhattan to spend a couple days with family and friends. We got to have dinner with Jeremy's brother Alex, take a driving tour of the ever changing K-State campus, spend some time with Carmen, Tony, and Hannah and have dinner with the Nutter's. It was a great couple days of catching up with people we don't get to see often enough.

Well, time for some pilates with my hubby.

When we went out to visit the house today, it was locked up, but we could see that they installed the cabinets. Over the next couple days, they will do trim and doors. It's starting to look like a house now!

Prayer in the Pond, Produce on the Patio, and Paper in the Postbox

So these past couple weeks haven't been terribly eventful, but there are some things that are worthy of noting. I haven't been timely with my post about the weekend at home, but if you still want to see what we were up to you can go to my sister's blog here and here. Yesterday, Jeremy and I had the opportunity to be baptized together at the Westside Family Church pond. We had both been convicted and wanted to be baptized on our own accord for quite a few years now, but put it off for various reasons. When this opportunity arose to do it in the pond rather than the "Jacuzzi for Jesus", we couldn't pass it up. We felt it was the next step of obedience that we needed to take in our walk with God. After a rather chilly start to the morning, God blessed us with a beautiful afternoon for the event. I believe we were 2 of 60 others who demonstrated this outward display of an inner commitment. Our plants on the patio continue to amaze us. We can't believe that we haven't killed them even after they took a couple leaps off the railing of our patio. The tomato plant took a hard fall this past week and lost a couple of the largest tomatoes on the plant, but I think we have atleast a dozen more that keep growing. That's plenty for us this year, but a BLT sandwich sure does sound good right about now. The pepper plant put on a few blossoms this past week, and a couple itty bitty peppers showed up in their place. This has been such a learning experience for us. I think even Jeremy has enjoyed the excitement of checking on the plants after some hesitation at the beginning. It's like we have our very own biology lab! :) That, or a form of worship to our Lord for the amazingly intricate plants that He created.

And, now the most exciting part of this past week.... a free roll of toilet paper in our mailbox!! I have become pretty thrifty... ok, cheap over the past few months and seem to always be signing up for coupons or free samples through blogs or other internet postings. Jeremy had the pleasure of getting the mail on this day while I waited in the car. When I saw him come around the corner, he had a disgusted look on his face with a small blue box from Wal-Mart in one hand. When he got in the car, I had the honor of opening the box to find a single roll of Scott Extra Soft toilet paper and a small package of Scott Naturals flushable wet wipes!!! I think I laughed at myself for about 5 minutes as we drove to wherever we were going.

Now, we probably won't put the wet wipes on the back of the toilet even though they may come in handy sometime. Instead they found their home in the glove box of the car to be pulled out for messes made in the car or for dirty hands. Whatever it is, I will probably have a chuckle each time they are used. There will be a time though when we are thankful that I signed up for this one! Until then, I'll just laugh about it.

I can't wait to find other treasures in our mailbox in the coming weeks! I can't remember what all I have signed up for, so it's a surprise every time!

After many requests to see pictures of our house(under construction), Jeremy and I thought this would be the best way to show you the exciting progress on that and other areas of our lives... like the potted plants growing on the patio of our apartment.

Roof goes on!

Windows, Doors, and Roof on.

They have the plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and phone/cable most of the way done. We have so much fun going out and checking on the progress and are excited to make it our home.

As for the plants, we have a tomato plant, green pepper plant and some pansies. We started all of them from seed and have been impressed with our green thumbs.

I will do my best at keeping this updated with exciting news and glimpses into our life. We are going back to Bern for the holiday weekend and the whole family will be home. There is sure to be some fun pictures from that...
